  • Type 321 stainless steel (UNS S32100) is a stabilized austenitic stainless steel similar to Type 304 but with a titanium addition of at least five times the carbon content. This titanium addition reduces or prevents carbide precipitation during welding and in 800 - 1500ºF (427 - 816ºC) service. It also improves the elevated temperature properties of the alloy.

    Type 321H stainless steel (UNS S 32109) is the higher carbon (0.04 – 0.10) version of the alloy. It was developed for enhanced creep resistance and for higher strength at temperatures above 1000ºF (537°C). In most instances, the carbon content of the plate enables dual certification.

  • ADDITIONAL PROPERTIES OF 321/H STAINLESS STEEL SHEET/PLATE

    • Corrosion Resistance
      Type 321 stainless steel has similar corrosion behavior to Type 304 with the exception of improved intergranular corrosion resistance due to the titanium addition for stablization. Resistance to organic acids and some inorganic acids is excellent. However, long term exposure to temperatures between 900-1500ºF (482-816°C) may reduce its overall general corrosion resistance but remains improved compared to unstabilized grades.
    • Formability
      Type 321 can be readily formed and drawn, however, higher pressures are required and more springback is encountered than for carbon steel and ferritic stainless steels. Like other austenitic stainless steels, Type 321 work hardens quickly and may require annealing after severe forming. The presence of certain alloying elements can make Type 321 more difficult to form than other austenitic grades such as 301, 304 and 305.
    • Weldability
      The austenitic class of stainless steels is generally considered to be weldable by the common fusion and resistance techniques. Special consideration is required to avoid weld "hot cracking" by assuring formation of ferrite in the weld deposit. This particular alloy is generally considered to have comparbale weldability to Types 304 and 304L. A major difference is the titanium addition that reduces or prevents carbide precipitation during welding. When a weld filler is needed, either AWS E/ER 347 or E/ER 321 is most often specified.
    • Heat Treatment
      Type 321 is non-hardenable by heat treatment.
      Annealing: Heat to 1750 -2050ºF (954-1121°C), then water quench or air cool.

    #1 Finish Hot rolled, annealed and pickled.
    #2D Finish A uniform, dull silver gray mill finish that is applied to thinner stainless steel coils,the thickness of which has been reduced by cold rolling.
    #2B Finish A semi polished surface achieved by finishing with the equivalent of a 80 to 120 grit abrasive. This finish has a pronounced grit line.
    #3 Finish A semi polished surface achieved by finishing with the equivalent of a 80 to 120 grit abrasive. This finish has a pronounced grit line.
    #4 Finish Also called brushed, directional or satin finish. A is characterized by fine polishing grit lines that are uniform and directional in appearance. The final abrasive used in the process is 150 to 220 grit.
    #4 Satin Brush Finish 150 to 180 grit finish A fine directional polish, typically used in the washroom accessories industry. Most 3.5″ floppy diskette cover plates have this finish.
    #6 Finish Polished finish achieved with the equivalent of a 240 grit abrasive. Finer grit lines and higher reflectivity than a No. 4 finish.
    #7 Finish Highly reflective surface obtained with the equivalent of a 320 grit abrasive. Minimal grit lines.
    No. 8 or True #8 mirror This is the most reflective mirror finish on the market. All of the polishing, or “grit,” lines from the preliminary polishing operations are removed. The look is that of a glass mirror. Sometimes referred to as a non directional mirror finish, Super 8, No. 9, Perfect No. 10, and even No. 12 mirror.
    CMP Super #8 mirror Chemical Mechanical Polished Super #8 mirror finished sheets are guaranteed to be free from any manufacturing defects. This product represents the ultimate in mirror polished stainless steel. It is available as a single-sided or double-sided mirror polished sheet.
    Hairline finish 80 – 140 grit finish A well defined directional polish. Starting base substrate is a No. 4 finish sheet; these sheets are polished to provide a “continuous long grain” hairline look. A finish which is popular with architects for its aesthetic, it is equally popular with fabricators due to it’s ease of fabrication and finish matching properties after welding operations.

    - Normally, the MOQ for our stainless steel sheet is 200 Kg. If we have any excess inventory of stainless steel sheet, there’s no MOQ requirement. You can ask us to check when you are interested in purchasing them.
