LDX 2101® is a lean duplex stainless steel developed for general purpose uses, LDX 2101®, like other duplex stainless steel, offers both better strength and chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance compared with 300 series stainless steel. The use of manganese ensures proper ferrite-austenite phase balance, while allows a reduction in nickel content. As a result, LDX 2101® is priced competitively with 304/304L and 316/316L stainless steel.
LDX 2101 (UNS S32101) is a lean duplex stainless steel containing 21.5% chromium, 5% manganese, 1.5% nickel and 0.45% molybdenum with better corrosion resistance compared with 304L and comparable to 316L. LDX 2101 has both better strength and better chloride stress-corrosion cracking resistance than traditional 300 series stainless steel.
The integration of a duplex structure and high nitrogen content provides much higher strength levels than 316/316L stainless steel. Often a lighter gauge of LDX 2101® can be used, while retaining the same strength as a 300 series fabrication. The resultant weight savings can significantly reduce the material and fabrication costs of a component.
The enhanced mechanical strength of LDX 2101 allows it to be used in thinner cross-sections which can provide great cost savings to end users. LDX 2101 was developed to be a low nickel general purpose substitute for 304 and 304L. High resistance to chloride emphasizes on corrosion cracking (SCC).
|LDX 2101 is a general purpose, low-alloyed lean duplex stainless steel. It has properties such as high mechanical strength, similar to that of other duplex steel. In addition, it also has good corrosion resistance. Compared to 300 series stainless steels, 2101 duplex stainless steel provides better strength and greater chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance.The use of manganese ensures proper ferrite-austenite phase balance, while allowing a reduction in nickel content. As a result, LDX 2101 is priced competitively with 304L and 316L stainless steel. Due to its relatively low alloying content, it is less prone to precipitation of intermetallic phases than other duplex steel.
The corrosion resistance of LDX2101 is generally great. Therefore is suitable for use in a wide range of general-purpose applications and environments. LDX 2101 offers an excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking due to its duplex structure. It also provides corrosion resistance comparable to 304L and 316L stainless steel, which makes it an excellent alternative to replace 300 series stainless in many applications.

SURFACE FINISH OF STAINLESS STEEL SHEET/PLATE :
*Not all finishes are available in all alloys - (contact Yieh United Sales for more information)
|#1 Finish||Hot rolled, annealed and pickled.|
|#2D Finish||A uniform, dull silver gray mill finish that is applied to thinner stainless steel coils,the thickness of which has been reduced by cold rolling.|
|#2B Finish||A semi polished surface achieved by finishing with the equivalent of a 80 to 120 grit abrasive. This finish has a pronounced grit line.|
|#3 Finish||A semi polished surface achieved by finishing with the equivalent of a 80 to 120 grit abrasive. This finish has a pronounced grit line.|
|#4 Finish||Also called brushed, directional or satin finish. A is characterized by fine polishing grit lines that are uniform and directional in appearance. The final abrasive used in the process is 150 to 220 grit.|
|#4 Satin Brush Finish||150 to 180 grit finish A fine directional polish, typically used in the washroom accessories industry. Most 3.5″ floppy diskette cover plates have this finish.|
|#6 Finish||Polished finish achieved with the equivalent of a 240 grit abrasive. Finer grit lines and higher reflectivity than a No. 4 finish.|
|#7 Finish||Highly reflective surface obtained with the equivalent of a 320 grit abrasive. Minimal grit lines.|
|No. 8 or True #8 mirror||This is the most reflective mirror finish on the market. All of the polishing, or “grit,” lines from the preliminary polishing operations are removed. The look is that of a glass mirror. Sometimes referred to as a non directional mirror finish, Super 8, No. 9, Perfect No. 10, and even No. 12 mirror.|
|CMP Super #8 mirror||Chemical Mechanical Polished Super #8 mirror finished sheets are guaranteed to be free from any manufacturing defects. This product represents the ultimate in mirror polished stainless steel. It is available as a single-sided or double-sided mirror polished sheet.|
|Hairline finish||80 – 140 grit finish A well defined directional polish. Starting base substrate is a No. 4 finish sheet; these sheets are polished to provide a “continuous long grain” hairline look. A finish which is popular with architects for its aesthetic, it is equally popular with fabricators due to it’s ease of fabrication and finish matching properties after welding operations.|
